How It Works

"Cushman Mall" is a fundraising project, produced by volunteers at the Cushman Scott Children's Center. However, the funds we're raising don't come from you, the visitor. They come from the participating merchants.

These merchants pay us through "affiliate programs." When you click on a link on our site, it takes you to the merchant's site, where you can can buy as normal. There is also a small cookie file written to your computer. When you check out, the merchant's server checks your computer, and if it finds the cookie, Cushman Scott's acocunt is credited for a commission. The checks are sent directly to the school - we don't share the money with any fundraising companies or brokers.

While some merchants place a cookie that lasts for many weeks, some place cookies that are good only for one day. That's why it's important to us that you visit Cushman Mall frequently. Before you buy something online, please click through from our site, so that a portion of your purchase goes to help the school.

So How Much Does The School Get?

The percentage of the sale that goes to Cushman Scott Children's Center varies. Airlines, computer manufacturers and other merchants in very price competitive industries tend to pay smaller commissions, usually 1-4%. Software, inkjet cartridges and rubber stamp companies pay up to 28%. Clothing, food, and books are somewhere in the middle. Global Equipment pays 7%. Verizon VoiceWing pays a flat $35.00 fee for sign ups.

We've posted a listing of our merchants, along with the commission rates. You may notice that some merchants have more than one commission rate. That's because different products may have different commissions, and also because some merchants will pay higher rates if our visitors buy in larger volumes.

Originally, this was supposed to be a very plain website, not a whole shopping portal.
